When you return home you will want to connect to the Internet using a modem rather than your network connection at the college.
Do not worry about not plugging in the red network cable at home. You may get a message warning you that your computer cannot find the network. This will be a message soon after turning on the computer saying something about a 'DHCP server', this is OK, just select 'do not show me any more messages'.
You need to configure two items:
Try to access the internet as you would normally do, i.e. double clicking the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop. You may find there are some warning messages that will tell you that the page cannot be found, ignore all of these, and if necessary, press the cancel button of any boxes that appear.
You then need to select 'Tools' from the menu, and then the menu item 'Internet Options "
This should give you the following dialog box:

Press the 'Connections' tab at the top of the box.

Then select the button 'LAN Settings ' at the bottom of the box

You need to click on 'use a proxy server' so there is not a cross in the box (as above). When the dialog looks like the one above then you can press the 'OK' button, this will show you the previous dialog
In this you need to select the "Always dial my default connection' as below

and make sure the Internet account that you have used in the past, is selected as the default.
If you have not set up an Internet account then you will have to do so with an Internet provider, e.g. fish.co.uk YOU NEED TO DO THIS BEFORE YOU LEAVE COLLEGE! - go to www.fish.co.uk
To finish, the press 'OK'
You can then try to access the Internet - e.g. press the home button to get to your home page, and you will be prompted to dial your connection. (That sounds too easy doesn't it!)
If you do not use Outlook express to get to the college email you can access this through the 'World Client' web pages by using the address:
http://mailgate.ripon-cuddesdon.ac.uk:3000/
you will need to type all off this in the address box as if you leave the 'http:://' bit out, or the last '/', this will not work.
Start Outlook Express and from the 'Tools' menu select the 'Accounts ' menu item. This should display the following dialog box.

You may need to select the 'Mail' tab at the top.
Ensure your Cuddesdon account has been highlighted and not another account.
Then press the 'Properties' Button. This should display:

You then need to select the 'Servers' tab at the top;

You will then have to change the Incoming and Outgoing mail boxes from 192.168.0.25 to:
mailgate.ripon-cuddesdon.ac.uk
You can then press 'OK' and 'Close' for the previous dialog box.
You may also like to change the way mail is delivered: Probably at college you had Outlook Express check to see if there was mail every minute. At home you may want to change it so it only sends and receives mail when you press the send and receive mail button on the toolbar. This can be done by selecting from the 'tools' menu the menu item 'Options ' and ensuring the item 'Check for new messages every ' does not have a tick next to it.
To send and receive email you need to be connected to the internet - this you can do by opening Internet Explorer to start the computer dialing your Internet Provider.
